Gem is a 15+ (?) year old grade (branded, may have been registered in the past) quarterhorse mare
This mare was well (fancy) broke to ride but hasn’t been ridden in a couple years due to not having enough time for her. Approx 15hh (not sticked)Her feet have been regularly maintained and she is sound. She doesn’t require any maintenance beyond regular farrier work and holds weight very well, even in the winter months. She’s currently barefoot and has been for years.
The past few years she has been used this mare mainly for pleasure and trails but very inconsistently . I got on her last summer and took her through her paces at a WTL and she did great, like she never had a break. She moved off the leg very nicely, neck reined, and was very easy to push forward and stop.
Despite this I would recommend whoever takes her has experience enough to give her a refresher. It’s been a good while since she was ridden and regularly.
In her past, we were told that gem was a ranch horse and could be roped off. We were told she was good with cows and seems good with them in the field. Based on her responsiveness when she was being ridden I am inclined to believe it.
Gem is looking for her semi retirement/ full retirement or potentially as a companion or therapy horse. Would like to see her be used a bit as she seems to miss being ridden. Feel she may do well in a lead line / therapy type program. She does lead and tie. She’s coming out of winter looking just as fantastic as the young horses. She has no known vices.
She’s up to date on teeth, feet and deworming
Can be hard to catch in a big field but is much easier if you have oats.
Mid – Low pecking order here
*📸 are recent and taken only a couple weeks ago to show her body condition coming out of winter.
